MAG is one of my favorite drivers & I'm sad that he's not doing well. moments of "oh, maybe is isn't that bad" followed by "well, he's not last." He seems to be a bit of a flash-in-the-pan kind of driver. IDK what Scuderia Alpha Tauri is going to do with TSU. He just got back into the sport & had one not terrible finish. RIC is, IMO, no way ready to be VER's teammate. That might be their "put up or shut up" kind of internal maneuvering. I think that RBR will make a decision on PER after the end of the '24 season. It's astonishing how quickly VER & his car can get off the line compared to SAI & LEC.Ĭhristian Horner has been quoted as saying something along the lines of "Checo finishing 2nd is not a necessity to him staying on the team" & Helmut Marko seems to support Checo as well. I think Mexico City was the best race of the season so far. He is not a long term solution, but could help with development as well (no he is not ALO) and gives more time for LAW to develop. And they still have not locked him down beyond next year. He will never be the #1 at SF, that will be Charles for the foreseeable future, so if you are going to be #2 driver anyway might as well have a more reliable car and better strategy behind you. My first choice would be Sainz, although a bit of a long shot. And so, also RIC can be the perfect choice for this purpose. RBR doesn't need another world champion to compete within the team, but a talent who can succeed VER later, or someone who reliably delivers second places next to him and is content with that. In the meantime, of course, there have been rumors risen that Alonso could replace Perez, but I don't think so. If I look at it from this point of view, it is not only logical, but the only rational choice would be RIC, since if LAW proves his talent as a partner of TSU, than later he would even be the successor of VER. However, Checco has to go and I think TSU would not be a good sidekick and in the same time LAW is too young to accept this role. You are right, RIC wouldn't necessarily deserve a comeback. I just thought about this a bit before answering, and I think it's a case where we're both right. He has yet to prove he deserves that seat. This was his only decent race so far, and the prior three years he stunk it up at McLaren. But this knee jerk reaction of putting RIC in there I just dont get.
